Services
Consultations
All consultations are by appointment and your vet only sees a maximum of 4 clients per hour. This system helps to make sure your pet is seen by your usual veterinary surgeon, and that we are able to see you promptly and have ample time for a complete clinical examination and discussion of the problem.
The first consult is at 9am and the last is 5.45pm Monday, Wednesday, Thurs and Friday, 6.45pm on Tuesdays and consultations run from 12.30pm to 2.15pm on Saturdays.
Health Checks and Geriatric Checks
We feel all patients should have at least one annual health check. An annual clinical examination can often pick up problems early and allow us to start treatment before a condition becomes more serious. Vaccination can be given at this time. For older animals we advise check- ups every six months. Animals on long-term medication or with specific illnesses may require check-ups every three months but your vet will be able to advise you which is the best option for your pet.
Vaccinations
Cats, dogs, rabbits and ferrets all require regular vaccinations. The vaccine required can vary from year to year, and we are more than happy to advise on your pet's requirements.
Microchipping
This is an easy and non-invasive method of permanently identifying your pet. The microchips are useful as protection against loss and are also the main method of identification for the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS).
Going Abroad
More and more people are taking their pets abroad. The PETS scheme has now been running smoothly for several years. Our vets are able to complete all the necessary vaccinations, blood sampling and paperwork to allow you to take your pet abroad. We will also advise you on which diseases are prevalent abroad and any preventative measures that should be taken.
Physiotherapy (available at Wood Street Veterinary Hospital)
Physiotherapy following surgery is extremely important to recovery. We have a physiotherapist who has completed further training for animals, who visits the hospital weekly. She is able to offer a complete range of treatments that speed and aid recovery. In suitable cases further treatments such as acupuncture or hydrotherapy can also be arranged.
CLINICS
Each clinic focuses on a particular aspect of care to help you through each stage of your animal’s life:
Puppy Parties (available at Wood Street Veterinary Hospital)
Young animals have a very important period up to 16 weeks of age called the ‘Socialisation Period’. During this time it is important to get your pet used to everything they may encounter as an adult. Puppy Parties are a fun chance to meet other puppies of a similar age, allow familiarity to the veterinary practice and ease any concerns that you may have regarding vaccination, worming, health or behaviour. For Puppy Party Information email - puppyparty@woodstreetvethospital.co.uk
Youth Club (available at Wood Street Veterinary Hospital)
The first year of your pet’s life can often be the most worrying as your small bundle of fluff develops into a hooligan! Youth Club is designed for puppies and kittens from the time of their second vaccination to their first birthday to advise and support you on the problems you may encounter.
When you join the youth club you are entitled to a FREE microchip and a monthly check up with a nurse to check on your pet’s progress.
Weight Clinic
Carrying a few extra pounds can mean big problems for your pet including an increased risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and painful joints. Our nursing staff will assess your pet’s weight and fitness so that together, a realistic weight loss programme can be developed to help your pet to reach an achievable weight target.
Dental Clinic
As your pet ages, dental disease can mean a painful mouth and smelly breath. Our nurses will assess your pet’s mouth and give you helpful advice to prevent the development of dental disease.
