Oakwood Veterinary Surgery

Oakwood EntranceMr Robert Gardner founded Oakwood Veterinary Surgery in the early 1990’s. Bob retired from general practice in 2001 and Tony White and Philip Barr of Wood Street Veterinary Hospital took over the practice. Tony White graduated from Bristol University in 1992 and joined the hospital as an assistant. He later became a partner in 1997. Philip Barr who also qualified from Bristol in 1991 joined Tony in 2001.

The vet responsible for the day-to-day running of Oakwood Veterinary Surgery since 2001 is Mike Voyce. Mike qualified from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) Oakwood Entrancein 1996 and spent his first year working at the RVC. He joined Wood Street Veterinary Hospital in 1997 and worked with us for over 2 years. In 1999 Mike went to Australia for 18 months. During this time he worked for the Australian RSPCA among other organisations. Mike now has 11 years experience working as a small animal practitioner and is a caring and dedicated small animal vet.

Our aim at Oakwood Veterinary Surgery is to deliver a high standard of clinical work and a personal service. Our status as a Tier 2 – Small Animal Accredited Practice (approved under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme) reflects our commitment to animal care and as a centre of excellence.

We see a variety of small animal and exotic patients at Oakwood and our team of veterinary surgeons, nurses and reception staff have an extensive range of knowledge and experience. Consultations are Monday to Saturday by appointment.

Oakwood EntranceWe have a large client car park to the front of the surgery, which will hopefully make any visit to the vet a little easier. When you arrive you will be welcomed by our friendly reception team. You will then be greeted by the vet who will examine your pet in one of our well-equipped consulting rooms.

Oakwood Veterinary Surgery has its own operating theatre equipped with a full range of operating equipment. We use modern anaesthetic and monitoring equipment to help ensure the safety of your pet. Our veterinary surgeons routinely perform on site operations including neutering, dental treatments, x-rays and emergency procedures.

We are fortunate to be able to call upon all the more specialised facilities of Wood Street Veterinary Hospital in Barnet for those occasions when your pet might require emergency or intensive care treatment. More advanced facilities such as endoscopy, ultrasound or laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) are also available at Wood Street Veterinary Hospital. We have an animal ambulance to assist clients with transport of their pets to the hospital if necessary.

Oakwood Veterinary surgery has it's own on-site laboratory allowing us to provide same-day blood and urine tests as well as examining samples from the skin and hair. Some tests may be sent to external labs and this usually involves a short wait of up to a week for results.

Outside of our normal opening hours we provide an emergency service at Wood Street Veterinary Hospital. Our computer systems are linked and all your pet’s clinical details will be available at the hospital. The hospital is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. No matter what your pet’s problem, there will always be a member of staff on the end of the phone to give you advice. Please call our normal telephone number in the first instance, and let the staff know that you are usually seen at Oakwood Veterinary Surgery to ensure that they help you with directions.
